Description
D3-Vitamin 2000 by Holistic (90 Capsules)
D3-Vitamin 2000 contains 2000 International Units (IU) of vitamin D per capsule, equivalent to 50 micrograms. This can be compared to the 10,000 IU produced after approximately 20-30 minutes in strong sunlight.
Holistic D3-Vitamin 2000 contains vitamin D3, the same form produced in the body when we are exposed to sunlight. Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system, muscles, and bones, helps maintain normal teeth, supports the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, and helps maintain normal blood calcium levels.

Why Do We Need Vitamin D?
Vitamin D influences about 2000 genes, affecting nearly all areas of our lives. Primarily, we get vitamin D through the sun’s UVB rays, which convert cholesterol in the skin into a precursor of vitamin D called cholecalciferol. This is then further converted in the liver and kidneys into the active form called calcitriol. For the skin to produce vitamin D, the sun must be at least 45 degrees above the horizon, which only occurs during the summer months. This means that during the winter months, the sun is too low for those of us in northern latitudes to produce any vitamin D at all.
During the summer months, you must expose bare skin to the sun’s rays to produce vitamin D. If you wear clothing that covers the skin, no vitamin D is produced. Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, and the amount you build up during the summer months is stored and used during the winter. Therefore, vitamin D levels are lowest in the spring before we can build up new levels of vitamin D. This also coincides with what is known as seasonal depression.
It is recommended to supplement vitamin D with magnesium and vitamin K2. The reason is that all minerals and vitamins interact and can be either antagonists or synergists. Vitamin K2 and magnesium are synergists, meaning they assist each other in their functions. K2 prevents calcium from being deposited in soft tissues such as the walls of blood vessels and is needed for depositing calcium in the bones. Magnesium is required to activate vitamin D, meaning you may struggle to increase your blood levels of vitamin D if your magnesium levels are too low. To address this, it can help to ensure you take both vitamin D and magnesium.
