Description
This dietary supplement contains 300 international units per drop (7.5 mcg), allowing you to easily dose the exact amount you desire. This can be compared to the 10,000 IU obtained after approximately 20–30 minutes in strong sunlight. Since vitamin D is fat-soluble and requires fat for optimal absorption in the body, we have included the vitamin in olive oil in this product, which helps it to be absorbed effectively whether taken with food or on an empty stomach. This formulation contains no unnecessary additives, flavorings, or aromas. We have chosen to use only pure olive oil, vitamin D, and a natural antioxidant to ensure the product’s durability and quality. The drops can easily be mixed into smoothies or food, making them easy to take.
Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system, muscles, and bones, as well as maintaining normal teeth, normal absorption of calcium and phosphorus, and normal calcium levels in the blood.
WHY DO WE NEED VITAMIN D?
Vitamin D affects about 2,000 genes and therefore has effects on almost all areas of our lives. We mainly obtain vitamin D through the sun’s UVB rays, which convert cholesterol in the skin into a precursor of vitamin D called calciferol. This is then further converted in various steps in the liver and kidneys into the active form called calcitriol. For us to be able to produce vitamin D in the skin, the sun needs to be at least 45 degrees above the horizon, which only happens during the summer months. This means that during the winter months, the sun is too low for us in the northern latitudes to produce any vitamin D at all. It’s also important to note that during the summer months, you need to expose bare skin to the sun’s rays for vitamin D to be produced. If your skin is covered by clothing, no vitamin D is produced.
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, and the amount of vitamin D that you build up during the summer months is stored and used during the winter months. Therefore, vitamin D levels are at their lowest in the spring before we can build up new levels of vitamin D. This also coincides with what is known as seasonal depression.
We recommend supplementing vitamin D with magnesium and vitamin K2. The reason is that all minerals and vitamins interact and are either antagonists or synergists to each other. In this case, vitamin K2 and magnesium are synergists, meaning they work together. K2 prevents calcium from being deposited in soft tissues such as the walls of blood vessels and is needed to store calcium in the bones. Magnesium is necessary to activate vitamin D, which means you may struggle to increase your blood levels despite taking vitamin D if magnesium levels are too low. To address this, it can help to ensure you take both vitamin D and magnesium.
