Description
This replacement cartridge for the Smedur filter uses Ahlstrom + Activated Carbon, a filtration technology highly effective against contaminants like PFAS, with tests indicating that no residues remain after filtration with this combination. The Ahlstrom membrane is a relatively new technology developed by the Swedish-Finnish company Ahlstrom-Munksjö. This filter medium is one of the most effective we work with, capable of removing a variety of pathogens and pollutants, such as bacteria, parasites, viruses, endotoxins, pharmaceutical residues, microplastics, PFAS substances, and more.
Unlike traditional mechanical filters, this membrane operates through electro-adsorption by being positively charged, creating a barrier effect against extremely small particles, which tend to become more electronegative as they decrease in size. It functions similarly to the technology found in the Microspiral filters used in many of our other water purifiers. Although the membrane has a pore size of just over one micrometer, it can even capture viruses and other extremely small and hazardous particles at the nano-level, which can be up to 5,000 times smaller than a human hair! However, minerals and salts can pass through, allowing the purified water to retain all of its healthy properties.
The Ahlstrom membrane can be effectively used alongside other filtration techniques, and we now offer specially designed filter cartridges for Smedur with an Ahlstrom membrane that includes an activated carbon core, optimizing filtration performance. Insert the cartridge into the base of the filter housing, then reassemble the housing. Typically (if the water is not overly contaminated), the cartridge can last up to six months before needing replacement. Reduced water flow generally indicates the need for a new cartridge, and it should be replaced within six months regardless.
